Overnight Program 2011

We had an overnight program for Eaglet1 and Eaglet2 students last November 11-12, 2011.
For our Eaglet 1’s, It is their first time to sleep in school. It was the most awaited event for our students. We talked about it for 2 weeks in the circle time to prepare them emotionally and physically. We have oriented them for their things to bring and the guidelines on how to behave during the event. These made a lot of emotions from the children.Some of them were excited, while others worries a lot. Then the big day came, most of them could not stop asking, “when are we going to start the overnight program?” “When will we have the cooking?” “I have a flash light!!”
Well, all their expectations came true.They enjoyed cooking, watching movie, taking shower, eating the foods served for them, games, flash light play, sleeping with their friends and waking up early to walk to the park to play.
Before going home, We asked them “who wants to sleep here again?” , many of the students happily answered, “YES!” It was a memorable moment for all of them. Everyone brought home a story to tell to their parents.

11月11日～12日にEaglet 1,2を対象としたお泊り会がありました。
Eaglet 1の子ども達にっとて、スクールにお泊りするのは初めてなので、約2週間前から持ち物や自分自身の気持ちの準備の意味も含めていっぱい話をしました。
もちろんとても楽しみにしている子、逆に心配でたまらない子と様々でした。
お泊り会当日には、「何時からお泊り会始まるの？」「クッキングはいつ？」「懐中電灯持ってきたよ!!」という質問やお話を何度もあちこちからされたんですよ(笑)
このお泊り会の中での、クッキング、映画鑑賞、シャワータイム、食事時間、お楽しみゲーム、懐中電灯遊び、みんなで一緒に寝て、翌朝公園で遊ぶ…ということを思いっきり楽しんだ子ども達。
帰る前に「またお泊り会したい人～?」と言うと「イエース!!」というたくさんの声が返ってきました。
きっと充実して、このプログラムを終えられるということでしょうね。

Learning Through Travelling

Learning Through Travelling
We did a series of trips as we inquire about our unit on “TRAVEL”.

First stop, the JTA.
Students enjoyed answering the quiz about an airplane and had got excited when they saw the huge airplane!!
Some of the students were proud to know and identify the public signs and symbols like toilet, handicap, warning signs, ets. as they also learn those through this unit.

Next is the Tomarine

Tomarine

Students prepared a survey form to investigate on people’s transportation preference. Their task is to ask the question “Why do you travel by ship?” to people waiting for their departure. Everyone felt tense as they come to approach their interviewer but it changed into smile after they got the answers. It made them feel proud for their accomplishment. It was a good opportunity for the students.

The last trip was in Okinawa World.
They have opened their minds while watching the snake show. Through the show, they have learned that snakes are not that scary after all! All Eaglet 1 students became a risk taker on that day as they lined up to have the opportunity to carry the big snake. They also witnessed and enjoyed the Eisa dance show. they were invited to join the dancers to play instruments and follow their dance moves. It was a fun-filled trip.
We are proud of our courageous students ♪

今回の単元“旅行”について知るために、Eaglet1でもみんなで色々な場所へ出かけました。
JTAへ行った際には、クイズに挑戦したり、大きな本物の飛行機を間近で見て大喜びの子ども達でした。また何人かの子ども達は、クラスで取り入れた『公共施設や道路にあるマーク』を実際に探す姿が見られ、クラス外に出て活動することの重要さを改めて感じさせられました。

とまりんでは、「なんでふねにのって　りょこうへいくんですか？」と大きなカバンを持ち、出発を待っている人々に質問をしました。質問を始める時には、不安な表情をしていた子ども達ですが、答えをもらうと嬉しそうなSmileになったのです。きっとこの経験は子ども達にとっていい機会となったことでしょうね。
最後のお出かけは、おきなわワールド。
ヘビショーやエイサーショーを見学しました。
エイサーショーでは、パーランクーに触れたり、カチャーシーに参加する機会があり、積極的に挑戦しました。
ヘビショーの最後には、大きなニシキヘビを首に乗せての記念撮影があり、何と全員がチャレンジしたのです!!　何て勇気のあるEaglet 1の子ども達だろう☆と嬉しい私達担任です。

Meaningful EOT for Eaglet1

Our 4-5 year old students had truly become more aware of how their community makes ways to preserve and conserve our limited resources through their EOT’s. The knowledge that they have learned may inspire them to take responsibility in keeping our planet clean and healthy to live in.

As we end our unit on Resources, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the companies that helped us acquire worthwhile opportunities so we could understand more about each of our inquires.

今回の資源についての単元、そしてより良く理解するために出向いた屋外探究活動(EOT)を通して、身近な生活の中の限られた資源をどのように大切するかを理解できたEaglet1の子ども達。この学習を経て、子ども達が責任を持って、身の回りをきれいに保つようになってくれることだと思います。

屋外探究活動で実際に見ること・聞くことにより、この単元が更に有意義なものとなりました。
私たちのEOTを快く引く受けて下さった各施設、そしてアドバイスをして下さった皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。

E1 students enjoyed their summer vacation.

Now we are back to school!!
We started our class activities about resources.
It sounds difficult, but it is a fun and important theme.
We had experiments using water, and students were eager to do this with a partner.
They also enjoyed their NEW TOYS in class.
Students really had fun playing with them!!

夏休みも明け、またクラスが始まりました。
Eaglet1の子ども達は、それぞれの夏休みを楽しんできたようです。
7月に引き続き“資源”についての活動が再スタートしました。
“資源”と聞くと難しそうに聞こえますが、自分達の身近なことなので
知れば知るほど興味深くなり、とても大切なテーマなのです。
子ども達は水を使った実験もしました！
パートナーと真剣に取り組む姿がいっぱい見られましたよ。
クラスには新しいおもちゃも加わり、楽しく使って遊んでいる子ども達です。

Last June 10, 2011, we went to Okinawa Zoo in Okinawa City. We saw many animals and their families. E1 students observed well and said, “That is the mommy and there is its baby!!”

At the Petting Zoo Area, E1 students had a good chance to touch some small animals.Although there were so
me students who were a bit scared to touch the animals, they proved to be risk takers and overcame their fears. They took care of the animals and even encouraged others to do the same.

They got hungry and tired during our tour, but they still afforded to move and play on the grass hill after they ate their yummy Bento!

6月10日(金)は沖縄市にあるOkinawa zooへ行きました。
そこではたくさんの動物、そして動物の家族を見学しました。
「あれはお母さん、あそこの小さいのが赤ちゃんだ！」などと、よく観察していた子ども達。

ふれあい広場では、実際に小動物と触れ合うことができました。動物が好きな子、苦手な子と散策中、空腹や少し疲れた表情を見せていた子ども達ですが、おいしいお弁当を食べるとまた元気になり、芝生の上で身体を思い切り使って遊んでいましたよ♪

様々でしたが、好きな子は両手で優しく触れてたり、怖がっている子に大丈夫だよ！ちょっと触ってごらん、と声をかけると怖がってた子達も勇気を出してそ～っと触れることができました!!!!

Fun Friday Must Be Crazy!

It was truly a fun day when we had our crazy hair day. Eaglet 1 students came to school with their unique hairdos. Some of them tied their hair with many rubber bands. There were others who set their hair like Dragon Ball Z, some left us in amazement with their total make over wearing long curly hair-wigs. While a few of them chose to change their hairstyle into Mohawk.

Coming to school with an unusual hair, made some Eaglet1 feel embarrassed at first; however, it also gave our students a good chance to be creative and stand in front of other students to present their new silly look.

We look forward to having another Friday full of fun.

先週金曜日のファンデーはCrazy Hair Dayでした。
子ども達は朝から、たくさん結んだり、ドラゴンボールの様に爆発した髪、ウィッグを付けたり、モヒカンヘアーにするなど、とてもユニークな髪型で登校してきました。
他のクラスのお友達の前に立って、それぞれのCrazy Hairを紹介することで緊張した子もいましたが、とてもいい機会になったと感じました。
次はどんなファンデーがあるか楽しみですね!!

Me, My Family and Friends

We have all enjoyed our golden week and we are back to school. We have started our formal class on our first unit about “Family”.
Eaglet 1 is inquiring about what a family is and who makes up their family. They made their own family tree using their pictures they got at home. They had show and tell in front of their classmates and introduced their family members by saying “This is my mommy, this is my daddy,”.
It was a good opportunity for everyone to know each other’s families as well as develop their communication skills even though some of them were shy.

Meet our New Classmates

We have a new classmate, her name is Yuzuha . She came to OIS last May 6 with her sister who is in Grade 3. She likes to talk and play with friends.

Welcome back Saachi! She spent her spring vacation in her own country in India. She came back last May 9.

GWも明け、本格的にクラスが始動しました。
そして、Yuzuhaちゃんという新しいお友達も入りましたよ!
Yuzuhaちゃんはお友達と話したり、遊ぶことが好きな女の子で、OISの3年生にお姉ちゃんもいます。みなさん、どうぞ宜しくお願いします。
また、4月の1カ月間、母国のインドで過ごしてたSaachiちゃんも戻ってきて、更に賑やかになったEaglet1クラスです!

現在、Family(家族)についての単元で、
自分の家族や一緒に住んでいる家族について探究しています。
持たせて頂いた写真を使い、Family treeを作りました。
“This is my mommy, this is my daddy.”とお友達の前で発表した子ども達。
元気よくできた子、緊張してうまくできなかった子…と様々でしたが、
人の前で発表するいいチャンスだったと思います♪

Worries No More

Parents might have a lot of apprehensions about their kids going to an English environment school. “My 4 year-old child doesn’t understand any English”. “How can he survive in school?” “Will she be able to meet friends?” “How can she communicate with her teachers?” Such things are common concerns of parents in communication notebook. Mind you our dear Eaglet 1 parents, for almost a month now after the Opening Ceremony, these children are amazingly learning the language to their greater advantage.
4月7日の入学・始業式から約1か月。新しいクラス、英語での環境の中で、「私の子は英語が分からないけど、大丈夫かな…?」「学校ではちゃんとクラスについていけているのだろうか?」「お友達は作れるかな…?」「どのようにして先生とコミュニケーションをとっているのだろう…?」と子どもの様子を心配する声が保護者の方から聞こえてきます。でもEaglet1の子ども達は新しい環境を少しずつ受け入れ、言葉を理解し始めるなど、頑張っていますよ！

Circle time（サークルタイム/朝の会）
We start our day by saying good morning to each and everyone in class. Then it will be followed by calling out their names to check their attendance as everyone listening intently waiting to say the “I am here” statement.Moreover, they have started to show their interest in learning our circle time songs every day. They even invent different lyrics for the songs.
サークルタイムはgood morning!!のあいさつから始まります。出席をとる時に、“Where is ○○～？”と自分の名前が呼ばれると、“I am here!!”と返事をすることもできます。音楽が流れると、歌ったり踊ったりする中で、歌の歌詞を変えたりしながら面白く歌ったりもする子ども達です♪

Daily routines（毎日のクラスの流れ）
We have four kinds of leader in the classroom every day: line leader, milk leader, lunch leader and clean leader. Whoever will be chosen to lead the class for the day should say the lines “Line up please”, “Are you ready?”, “Do you have your lunch?” etc. Whatever it takes, our Eaglet 1’s are all eager to lead the class, totally unaware that they are already saying it in English.
Eaget1にはLineリーダー、Milkリーダー、Lunchリーダー、Cleanリーダーの４種類があります。
リーダーさん達は、「Line up please.」「Are you ready?」「Do you have your lunch?」などと英語で号令を掛け、クラスのまとめ役をしてくれます。子ども達は「今日はぼく/わたしの番かな?」と毎日楽しみにしていて、リーダーになると「ヤッター♪」と大喜びしていますよ!

May this article appease every one of us here that these youngsters could eventually get used to their new school year. Given the right motivation and support, both in school and at home, we can surely lead them to their fullest potential.
子ども達は毎日の活動やお友達との関わりを通して、一歩・二歩と確実に成長していきます。
保護者の皆さまと私達が共に手を取り合い協力することで、子ども達はとても良い環境で成長することができると思います。
